A Level Politics Tutoring

Clear content. Exam technique. Revision strategies.

for students…

Preparing for your A Levels probably feels like one of the most stressful things you have ever done. You’ve dropped all those GCSE subjects that you never really liked but there still seems so much more to learn. Maybe there’s a topic that you didn’t quite understand when you studied it at school. Or it might be a practice essay, Year 12 summer exams, Year 13 mocks, or the ‘real thing’ coming up. (They seem to hit you one after another.) You’re not alone, though. If you think you might benefit from an extra bit of help…

I work with students studying for the EdExcel Government and Politics syllabus, including the UK Government, UK Politics, US/Global Politics and Political Ideologies components. I have three simple principles that guide my work with each and every student.

Content should be straightforward and clearly explained. I make sure that you have the latest examples from day-to-day politics that examiners will expect to see in top mark answers.

Revision strategies

Revision should be bite-sized and regular. I can work with you to develop a clear plan with assignments and feedback to make that as straightforward as possible.

Exam technique

Improving exam technique is the quickest way to improve grades. I explain how to structure essay and source-based answers to provide all the evidence the markers are looking for.

for mums, dads, carers…

You just want to help, right? Because however old they get, we never stop caring. But we don’t always know how. We didn’t study the subject at school, haven’t sat exams ourselves for years, or worry maybe that their teacher isn’t the best. (As a dad, I’ve been there.) If you want to explore what an extra little bit of help might do…

About me

My name is Rich Young. I have taught in single-sex and co-ed schools, with selective and comprehensive intakes, and in the independent and state sectors.

I am a graduate of both Cambridge University (MA(Hons) History and M.Phil International Relations) and Oxford (MBA). My teaching qualification is from the School of Education at the University of Exeter.

In schools, as well as Politics, I also teach British political history from the 18th to the 21st century, international relations of the 20th and 21st centuries, and support students in writing personal statements and preparing for interviews at many top universities.

I am available to tutor face-to-face in Gloucestershire and online throughout the UK and globally.
